ICARO arquitetura

We are an architecture studio founded by Andrea Icaro Roveda in Matosinhos in 2022. Although the studio itself is recent, our expertise is built upon many years of prior professional experience in the architectural field.
Our approach to each project is to create a distinctive proposal that harmoniously integrates the client’s program requirements with the unique characteristics of the site, resulting in solutions that are both contextually sensitive and functionally effective. We maintain a formal yet approachable tone, reflecting our commitment to professionalism, precision, and excellence in all aspects of our work.
We believe that construction can play a vital role in reducing environmental impact. For this reason, we strive to develop building solutions that are mindful of ecological preservation, including passive design strategies that enhance energy efficiency, and the use of natural, recyclable materials—such as cork, hemp, and earth—fields in which we have acquired substantial knowledge over the years.

Andrea Icaro Roveda

Born in Milan in 1982.

Graduated from Politecnico di Milano in 2009 under the supervision of Camilo Rebelo. During his studies, he interned with practices such as Carlos Castanheira and Luca Rolla.

From 2010 to 2014, he collaborated with Brauen + Wälchli in Lausanne, developing projects such as the “Joux-Verte” pedestrian bridge (Prix Lignum mention).

In 2014, he began his first independent works between Italy and Portugal and collaborated occasionally with Elisa Ossino and Draftarch.

In 2016, he settled in Portugal and collaborated with SKREI, developing projects with natural materials and low-carbon solutions.

In 2021, he collaborated with MASSlab, working on the Douro villa project “Vale do Sabugueiro and Porto Art Club project in Porto.”

In 2022, he founded ICARO arquitetura in Matosinhos and has projects in the Algarve, Douro and Porto regions.
